COVID-19: Proper use of the mask on the face

29 January 2021

Let's be brief and practical and try to learn this once and for all: there is only ONE correct way to put the mask on your face. It is necessary to acquire the right size (yes, there are sizes) and adjust the wire to the nose. When in doubt, always ask those who know, do not limit yourself to seeing the incorrect examples that are given, for example, on television. One of these examples is the use of the FFP2 mask, in which half of the people use the mask not adjusted, thus breathing through the sides and not through the filter. For this, it is preferable to use surgical masks again (avoid the community ones, please).

On the other hand, there are TOO many wrong ways to use the mask. Create good habits so you don't have to think about it, remember?

As for the usage time, I made a drawing/graphic (sorry, I'm an engineer artist, this sometimes collides…) to see if the information goes directly to your subconscious. Like that of the waiting lines (do I fit here lying down), remember?

In short: surgical masks should be used for a maximum of 4 hours, while FFP2 masks can be used for up to 6 hours. For those who do not like counting hours, when it starts to appear that little hair in the mask or when it starts to get wet, then it is a sign that it is time to change.

(NOTE: If not yet adjusted, the mask is not wet, but it is not worth it!).

And you, distracted, don't put your mask on the tables and don't eat in public places, yes? Create good habits and save lives!
